  1. You can not deny that certain songs elicit certain emotional responses.  Why not promote the songs that have lifted you up through the times when a good little lifting up was majorly appreciated?  Some of the songs you selected were immediate hits motivating the masses but some of them I never got to know their names as their popularity died out before I was interested.  Keep the smile, Rod

  2. Hi Nathalie,

I have to say that 80’s fulfill my soul and that I feel so good while listening to this music. I love all the songs that you listed, it just depends what is my mood that day – what author/song suits me the best. : )

Today, I would choose ‘Beat it’ and ‘The Final Countdown’, I feel like dancing… although other ones can also give great boost.

I remember when I had to go to college, when we were having test, and I wanted to relax and be focused, and I listened Whitney Houston (I Wanna Dance with Somebody) and Bobby McFerrin (Don’t Worry Be Happy). So I went with a smile and enjoyed my exam 😀

I personally think that 60’s and 70’s also have great quality, but 80’s are just like – great! 90’s are also nice.

    Thanks for sharing these songs,

I just had to click on ‘Tainted Love’ now! : ))

    Best wishes,

    Susan

  3. Ahh it’s got to be ‘Eye of The Tiger’ by Survivor for me – I was a kid in the 80’s and a typical boy, therefore I absolutely loved the Rocky films with Sylvester Stallone. From what I can remember – I think Survivor’s song was the theme tune to Rocky III (with Mr. T starring in it!)?

Another great list here that really brings back memories – love the videos included to!

    1. Thank you for taking the time to leave your comment here, Chris.

Yes! You’re right! ‘Eye of the Tiger’ was the theme song for Rocky III, with Mr. T, yes! 🙂 You know your classics! 🙂

  4. Thanks for sharing the 10 upbeat songs from the 80’s! Much impressed! I played those videos one after the other and derived so much pleasure in all of them. For the fact that I love music so much, I had to pay for data subscriptions in order to play all of the videos you shared. Please, I have a question: How can I save those videos on my laptop computer so I can replay them whenever I wish to hear them again? Thanks for your response in anticipation! I bookmarked your site.

    Israel Olatunji

    1. Hi Israel,

You can save those songs directly to your computer using a Youtube converter. Which will convert the video format used by Youtube to a mp3 format that you can save.

      Happy Holidays,

      Regards,
      Kurt

    2. Thank YOU for taking the time to leave your comment here, Israel.

I’m really glad to hear that you enjoyed listening to these 10 hits from the 80’s. You had to pay for data subscription in order to play all these videos? Wow! I’m impressed! You really love music indeed!!

I see that Kurt gave you some information about converting the videos into a mp3 format. But that means that you are going to lose the images and just have the music. I am also not sure about the legality of doing this. And you have to be careful which sites you use for that because some of them can trick you into clicking onto ads you do not want.

If you just want the songs themselves, you can sign up to Amazon Music for 3 months for 0.99$. After the 3 months, you can either cancel your subscription or pay $7.99/month. You can click here:

      I hope this is helpful.

For videos, I have to say that I am not sure…

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  5. Hi!

Good idea to listen some music songs from 80s 🙂 I need to admit that I don`t listen much this music, only sometimes. From that list I would choose `Survivor – Eye of the Tiger` But I would suggest also one other song; La Isla Bonita from Madonna.

By the way, do you think music from 80s is more good vibrant than music from 90s? 😉

    1. Hi again Luke!

It’s great to read your comments on my various posts! 🙂

Oh yes! La Isla Bonita from Madonna! I was a HUGE Madonna fan and knew ALL of her songs until her album Like a Prayer… and then I kind of drifted away from her… But I still remember the lyrics of her songs!!

Good question you ask… I’m not sure… I believe there are also great vibrant songs from the 90’s. I’m actually preparing a post on this topic. Would you suggest any upbeat 90’s songs YOU particularly like?

      🙂

      Nathalie

When you add Michael Jackson to the list, I cannot go anywhere except on Jackson. The guy can sing for me and I believe he will remain one of the best singers in the history of music. I listened to the whole “Beat it” song and I was like why you didn’t drop the whole album for  me. On the list however, I also loved “Forget Me Nots” from Partrice Rushen, the beat is very alike to Michael Jackson’s and its unresistable.

Thank you so much, I had nice time going through your list of greatest hits of the 1980s

    1. Hello Ngnoni,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your comment here.

Glad to hear that you had such a great time listening to “Beat it” and “Forget me Nots”.

Yes, I agree with you! I also believe Michael Jackson will remain one of the best singers in the history of music! 🙂

What’s YOUR favorite Michael Jackson’s song?

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  7. The 80’s is my favorite era of all time, even though I didn’t live through it. My favorite song from this list is definitely Europe’s Final Countdown.

My personal favorite feel good song from the 80’s is Aha, Take on Me. I feel like the music just makes you happy because of the upbeat keyboard.

It’s hard to pick something though, since there are so many good ones from the 80’s.

    1. Hello Mel,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your comment here.

Oh yes! Aha’s “Take on Me” is absolutely great, with a great upbeat keyboard!! 🙂 I am going to add it to a third post about the 80’s music… I received so many good suggestions, there’s got to be a follow up! 🙂

Yes, I agree with you! It is indeed hard to pick something since there are so many good songs from the 80’s! ?

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  8. Very nice collection from the eighties there!  You are asking for my favorite of the 10, I would have to go with Van Halen’s jump.  Van Halen is still one of my favorite bands today.  I started listening to them before the big hype of 1984.  They actually came out with their first album in 1978 withe a self titled “Van Halen” album.

Back then, Eddie Van Halen’s “hammering” on the frets of his guitar was not known to the public, which made his guitar playing seem out of this world for how fast he could play.  In concerts, when doing a solo while hammering his frets, he used to turn his back to the crowd so that his “secret” method would not be copied.

And the rest is history! 🙂

    1. Hello Denis,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your comment here.

Glad to hear that you like my collection from the eighties.

Wow! I had no idea about this fact about Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen’s “secret” method!! It must have indeed seem out of this world to hear him play that fast without knowing how he could possible do it! Was he the first guitarist ever to use this method? Or “just” the fist famous one? You sound like you know a lot about music!! Are you a musician yourself?

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  9. Hi Nathalie,

its so great to find people who still think 80s music is good! nowadays generation listen to utter crap!

I was born in 80’s and my first MJ song i can remember listening to is Beat It! what a classic! I see you also got some all time greats like Eye of the tiger – who hasnt gone to the gym, listened to this and thought they were Rocky? lol!

Tainted love, final countdown and never gonna give you up! what brilliant songs!

thanks for the trip down memory lane

    1. Hello Tarun,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your comment here.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. So you went to the gym, listened to “Eye of the Tiger” and thought you were Rocky? Nice!! That must indeed have given you some extra energy and motivation! What do you listen to now when you go to the gym, if you still do?

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  10. Great reminder. I grew up listening, singing and dancing to these songs . They are all awesome tracks. I really like Rick Astleys Never gonna give you up.. maybe because I listened to it more often than the others. But I think it’s a really great track.

Thanks Nathalie for bringing this up and sharing with us

    1. Hello Eohia,

My pleasure, really! Thank YOU for taking the time to leave your comment here.

Glad to hear that you had a good time listening to Rick Astley’s Never gonna give you up. I know some people make fun of it but I LOVE it too! It’s so cheerful and happy!

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  11. Hi Nathalie, All of those songs are popular and enjoyable. But I feel different when I listen “Forget Me Nots” by Patrice Rushen, “Into The Groove” by Madonna and “Beat It” by Michael Jackson. Those are really heartthrob songs with fantastic music and sounds. Thanks for sharing this top list from greatest hit’s of 80’s. I am following you for your other’s article also. Thumbs up!

    1. Hello Mzakapon,

My pleasure, really! Thank YOU for taking the time to leave your comment here and for following my other articles too. That means a lot to me. 🙂

Yes! I agree! Some songs are popular and enjoyable and others make us feel different… Maybe you have special memories related to the 3 songs you mention “Forget Me Nots” by Patrice Rushen, “Into The Groove” by Madonna and “Beat It” by Michael Jackson?

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  12. oh oh oh … you have got to have Sweet Child o’ Mine by Guns & Roses!!  Two Tribes by Frankie Goes to Hollywood?  We ain’t gonna take it, by Twisted Sisters?

Sorry, are these songs to rev one up (like before a match) or to yell sing to? hehe  Coz I also like Prince’s Purple Rain.

A song doesn’t necessarily need to have an upbeat for me to instantly feel better.  Rather, that I know the key words to belt out … and the belting of it out makes me feel great!  (unfortunately, it needs to happen only when I’m by myself; for obvious reasons when one is tone deaf)

    1. Hello Cath,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your comment here.

Hahaha! I like the way you put it! You have a great writing style! 🙂

Thank you for your 4 suggestions! I am going to write a third post about the 80’s music… I received so many good suggestions, there’s got to be a follow up! ?

To answer your question, I meant to choose songs to rev one up, not “just” to yell sing to! ? But you are absolutely right when you say that the belting out of a song can make us feel great even if the song is not upbeat per se. 🙂 And Prince’s Purple Rain is indeed great for that! Actually, after reading your comment, I was myself singing it in the house to the point that my husband asked me puzzled “Why are you singing Purple Rain?” Hahahaha!! Thanks a lot for bringing this song back into my day! 🙂

      Keep in touch!

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  13. Cool. I love reading your posts I gotta say. And you got some tracks in there that bring back some great memories too. I still crank up the volume on The final countdown, even after alll these years. Some powerful tracks are truly timeless. Great share, and thanks again.

    1. Hello Kenny,

Thank YOU for taking the time to leave your comment here.

I’m really glad to hear that you love reading my posts. That means a lot to me. ?

Yes! I agree! Some powerful tracks are truly timeless! I can almost see you crank up the volume on The Final Countdown! 🙂 Did you yell sing it too?

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  14. Sujandar Mahesan

Wow these are some amazing hits. I haven’t heard them before going through your website today. They all sound really good in their own way. I never knew that 80s song can be this interesting. I like Europe – The Final Countdown the most. It has a really good beat and background music. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

    1. Hello Sujandar,

My pleasure, really! Thank YOU for taking the time to leave your comment here! 🙂

I’m really glad to hear that you learned about music from the 80’s through my post.

Yes! I agree with you! Europe – The Final Countdown really has a good beat and background music! 🙂

      Many blessings,

      Nathalie

  15. Hi dear !
I see that some of the songs I picked are on your list 🙂
“Jump” and “Tainted Love” especially remind me of parties that lasted all night when I was a student. We barely slept and life felt good, carefree and exciting.
I’m a big music fan, and the 80s were paradise for me in terms of music.
There are many feel good songs from that era.
I would add Elton John, David Bowie, Queen, Jimmy Somerville and many others, also in French.
Let’s keep singing and dancing in the rain and storms of life !
Much love to you my dear !

    1. Yes, my dear Véronique!! Some of your selection is here! 🙂

You are absolutely right about the artists you mention here too!

I too share the same type of memories as a student! That was a lot of fun!!

Yes! Let’s keep singing and dancing in the rain and storms of life! And in its sunny moments! And in any other moment in between!! Hahaha! 🙂

Sending you lots of love and blessings!

      Nathalie

  16. Hey Nathalie – I love these! It’s a trip down memory lane!

Pop music for me started to fizzle out at the end of the 80s, particularly when Stock, Aitken & Waterman turned music into production numbers. Alas, I count Rick Astley as one of the culprits! 🙂 My Top 5 from your list are, in order: The Final Countdown. Eye Of The Tiger (rock on, Rocky! 🙂 ), Tainted Love. Kids in America, and Jump.

So, you want other songs? 🙂 How about these: Enola Gay (not an uplifting subhect but a great song), Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,  House Of Fun, Don’t You (Forget About Me), Under Pressure. and one of the definitive Xmas songs, Fairytale Of New York. Since we’re heading that way 🙂 my two favourite Xmas soings are Greg Lake’s I Believe In Father Christmas, and John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War Is Over) which debued in the 70s which just goes to prove that you can’t keep a good song down!

I’m a big fan of electronica (hence some of the songs in my selection) and although the genre rose to popularity in the 70s, songs like Ultravox’s Vienna (1981) make the hairs stand up on the back on my neck!

    I feel better already!

    Cheers,Ian

    1. Wow!! Thank you so much for taking the time to share all this with me, Ian. I really appreciate. I’m really glad you loved them and that you feel better already! 🙂

I am going to check out the songs you mention. Some of them, I already know, but I am not sure about other titles. At the same time, sometimes I know and love the song but just don’t know its name nor who sings it. This is great for me too!

      Cheers,

      Nathalie

  17. Hi

    This is interesting site.

I was born on the late 80s so Im not familiar with some of the songs but I vaguely remember some of the tunes growing up.

Eye of the Tiger: Makes me feel I can overcome obstacles

The Final Countdown: I love the guitar

Never Gonna Give You Up: Makes me laugh. People use it to troll others all the time

Queen is also from the 80 right? I love the movie about them and for some reason I am familiar with most of it!

    Regards,

    John Greg

    1. Hi John!

Thank you for your kind words! They are much appreciated.

Thank you also for sharing your preferences and what these songs evoke in you. 🙂  I find it fascinating how music can awaken so many emotions within us!

Yes, Queen is also from the 80’s. And the 70’s…  🙂

      Regards,

      Nathalie

  18. Hi Nathalie,

I’m not a singer, but I love to sing!

I’m quite familiar with some of the songs that you mentioned ,like Eye of the tiger, Into the groove and Never gonna give you up. Papa Don’t Preach by Madonna is also upbeat and would make you dance and bounce.

Definitely, singing is always a part of my everyday life. I usually hum any song, anytime to make me feel better, especially if I’m stressed.

Thanks for sharing. Those songs bring me good old memories.

    Marita

    1. Hello Marita,

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to leave your comment. 🙂

It was a pleasure to share these songs with you and I’m glad to hear that they brought you some good old memories.

Yes! I agree with you! Humming is great too!

      🙂

      Nathalie

  19. All of these are awesome tracks and I am sure they were really great hits. I liked everyone of them but gun to my head I would go for Van Halen’s Jump. Also I would go for madonna’s into the groove. I am a huge fan of Madonna and I love her tracks.

I think one of my bests 80s song is Micheal Jackson’s Beat it. Such creativity put into that track made it one of my favorite.

    1. Hi Jay,

Thank you very much for your comment! I was a huge Madonna fan in the 80’s. I even went to see her in Paris in 1987. Amazing concert! I can still sing most of her songs from the 80’s by heart and I also enjoy her later work.

Michael Jackson’s Beat It is also great, yes!!! How could I not include one of his songs here. I am going to add it right now! It should be up in a few minutes.

Thanks so much for your input!

      Nathalie
